Junbin Yang (he/him)

Junbin Yang is a doctoral student in the Physical Cultural Studies program at the Kinesiology Department within the University of Maryland. He received his M.A. from the same department and B.A. in Sociology and Sport Management from Hanyang University, South Korea. His thesis focused on reinterpretation of assemblage theory by synthesizing the theory and certain ideas within conjunctural cultural studies, including the concepts of conjuncture and articulation and examined three particular conjunctures within Korean history. He previously worked as a journalist for several newspapers, focusing on topics such as post-utilization plans after the PyeongChang Olympics, and the relationship between the entertainment and sports industries. His research interests broadly include sport and politics, the globalization of sport and physical culture, mega-sporting events, and disability studies. Drawing on a qualitative approach, his research aims to better understand the overlooked and unseen forces that enable and/or constrain the sporting public.
